What I can do for you
Graphic Recording makes your event memorable and your speakers shine. The audience will go away having learnt far more than if they had merely listened and watched speakers deliver their messages using wordy slide shows.
When people listen to the speaker and watch content being recorded live they retain much more. The event becomes interesting and the information sticks. Check out what my clients say, then try it for yourself.
Why on earth a lawyer would become a graphic scribe...?
I became interested in symbols, codes and translating information when I learnt Pitman's Shorthand at school. Little did I know how well that would serve me later in life. Learning to play the violin and read music for 7 years helped too.
I became a lawyer and took lecture notes down in shorthand. We all know the adage that knowledge is power - and it is true. So, once I'd qualified and been admitted to the Bar, I set about making the law (and later basic English and health information) accessible to those who really needed it. Access, participation and democracy have been key values in my career. Drawing, painting and sculpture have also been constant companions - making art is how I express myself.
I moved from law into writing policy. This was a way to focus on the broader, strategic issues - the engine room where ideas are developed and translated into laws - actions for groups of people, rather than individuals.
While I was working within the area of health literacy I came across graphic recording and facilitation. It sparked a passion in me and since 2012 I have devoured everything I can about the theory and practice. I am a member of the International Forum of Visual Practitioners and that provides valuable support and camaraderie.
Neuroscience confirms that the use of text and imagery unpacks complexity, enhances retention and recall and puts everyone on the same page, literally.
The 21st Century is all about digital technology and visual literacy - it's the new frontier. Let me take you there to experience the power of graphic recording for yourself and your audience.
